Healthy & delicious red velvet pancakes

There’s no reason to sacrifice taste for health, especially when it comes to the most important meal of the day.

Health Freak Café serves up incredible looking, and tasting, gluten and refined sugar free meals, and one of the things I love most is that they have tonnes of vegetarian and vegan dishes alongside all things keto and paleo.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been to one of their cafes, so when I was invited to try their August breakfast special red velvet pancakes, I jumped at the chance. Health Freak Café at Floreat has a lovely relaxed vibe, with trademark pops of orange alongside exposed brick and glossy wood.

The red velvet pancakes, which are thick and richly cake-like, are not too sweet thanks to the addition of beetroot, which also gives them their gorgeous colour.

Topped with amazingly tasty mascarpone, a generous amount of berry compote, a drizzle of maple syrup and raspberries, they’re a generous and filling brekky that look good, tastes great, and are much better for you than typical sugar-laden pancake dishes.

Just $12 – which for Perth prices in insane! – and available every day before 11.30am.

With excellent customer service, and set in the cool surrounds of the outdoor area of Floreat Forum, you can keep that glowy feelin from your healthy breakfast going all day by popping into the low waste bulk food store, fresh fruit and veggie market and well-stocked health food store before you leave.

*Thank you Health Freak Café for inviting me in to try your August breakfast special
