Dogs! Wine! Vintage goodness! Yep this week there really is something for everyone, whether you want to take a road trip down south for one of my favourite events of the year, or roll up to the foreshore and have the best of the south west region brought to you. Chuck in one of the first outdoor movies of the season and a fabulous brunch with drag queens, and this weekend is looking pretty damn impressive!
Movies in the Park
Friday 10 November
What better place to watch the beautiful ‘tale as old as time’ of Beauty and the Beast than outdoors under the stars. Grab a big bucket of popcorn, bring a picnic and head to Garvey Park in Belmont to watch one of Disney’s most beloved movies – it’s all happening as part of the Let’s Celebrate Belmont Festival.
The Sou’West Vintage Fest
Saturday 11 November
The best fest in the south west is on this Saturday in the beautiful heritage listed Caves House Hotel in Yallingup. Grab a glass of bubbly to get you in the mood, and then enjoy the full day of free activities – there’s vintage market stalls in the gardens, a classic car show, a beach bombshell pageant, beard and moustache competition, and you can even bring along your own vintage collectables for appraisal. Live music will keep things kicking throughout the day, with Rusty Pinto, The Surf Mist and Crash Creole setting the scene for this old school, beach babe, totally gnarly party that is not to be missed. Entry will only cost you a gold coin, with proceeds going to Disabled Surfers Association South West. Radical!
Dogs’ Refuge Home of WA – Home Open 2017
Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 November
Love doggos? Get yourself to the Dogs’ Refuge Home of WA Open Day stat! They’ve got a whole host of activities running across two days, so pop by to have some fun, check out the cute dogs (and maybe talk to them about fostering or adopting) and pick up a Wag Bag showbag. On Saturday there will be a jumble sale, book stalls, plant stalls, doggie merch, Wag Bags, and food, cake and coffee. On Sunday, there will be all of this plus a puppy kissing booth, raffles, face painting, a dog wash, lawn games and dog competitions. They’re still accepting donations for the Trash and Treasure stalls, so if you’ve got some good quality items you can donate (before the weekend), the funds will all go towards looking after the dogs.
South West in the City
Sunday 12 November
If you haven’t been able to take time off for a trip down south lately then don’t despair, because all of the best food and wine from the region is coming to the city this Sunday. The South Perth Foreshore will be taken over by the best wineries, breweries and gourmet food from the region, and there will be pop up bars and restaurants, lounging areas, vendor stalls and lots of entertainment to get you into the swing of things. Enjoy a glass or two then grab a bottle of your favourite wine to take home. Tickets start from $25 and include a tasting glass and 10 tastings.
Sunday 12 November
Get ready for a meal like no other – if you’re ready to get served, the Moon Cafe is dishing up brunch with a side of sass. Think delicious food, themed drinks, party games and three amazing drag performers presided over by the hostess with the mostess, Swish. Wipe off the grime from your crazy Saturday night and get along for the most fabulous meal of the day. Entry is free but bookings are essential.
