Last weekend the Bloggers United AU held their second event in Perth, and it was the first blogger event that I had been to.
Not quite sure what to expect I turned up at the Four Points by Sheraton in the city for what ended up being a super fun few hours. So what is Bloggers United AU? It’s a group that aims to connect bloggers, vloggers and Youtubers around Australia, started by the ladies who run NJT Blogger and Sweetaholic Beauty, and their events are an opportunity to establish in-person connections with the blogging community.
BUA Perth reps Sophie, of Born to Buy Blog, and Samantha, of She Writes About It, were on hand to welcome us and we were greeted with a glass of champagne as we walked through the door, setting the mood for a laid-back yet informative afternoon.
There were a couple of beauty brands set up in the room for us to chat to throughout the day, and we also heard from four speakers. First up was Siobhan from the brand Vani-T, who chatted to us about the company and its products. Prior to this I hadn’t heard of the company so it was great to learn more about their mineral makeup range that’s made in Adelaide and full of Australian botanicals with no nasty additives. We were gifted a gradual tanner called Bronzing Custard which I’m looking forward to trying, and got to test out a gorgeous revitalising facial spritz that I am about 99% convinced I need to get my hands on. If you’re a sucker for gorgeous packaging then you’ll love Vani-T, their blinged out brushes and lipsticks are just beautiful.
Up next was Nikita from L’Oréal Professional which represents six haircare brands. As we were able to go and chat to Nikita throughout the day about some new release products he instead spoke to us about the importance of a media kit and gave some really helpful tips based on his experience as someone who deals with bloggers and influencers. It was interesting to hear about this kind of thing from a different perspective and I came away with a page of notes about things I should be doing! L’Oréal also gifted us a whole bunch of products including their new Sugar Shine System – again, I can’t wait to test this out.
The third speaker of the day was Nari from Weleda, another brand I hadn’t previously heard of but that I’ll now definitely keep an eye out for. Weleda has about 120 products in its range to cover you from head to toe, and they’re all ethically sourced, natural, organic and sustainable, as well as free of preservatives, synthetics, GMOs, fragrances and colours. The brand has been around since 1921 so it’s safe to say it’s nailed it when it comes to creating products that do what they say they will. Weleda kindly gifted us their Skin Food which is a gorgeous cream for rough or dry skin filled with ingredients like chamomile, calendula, sweet almond and sunflower oil. We were also given a Creamy Body Wash and I received the Wild Rose scent. It’s a nice thick, eco-friendly wash that smells of roses and ylang ylang – amazing!
The final presentation was by Sameera who runs Dynamique Blog and is also studying PR. I’ve been following her for a while now (seriously she is the Queen of Snapchat!) and had been emailing her recently about an event, so it was lovely to meet her in person and hear more about how she stays motivated and inspired. One of the things Sameera spoke about was how important it is to have a squad and this really hit home for me because up until now I really hadn’t met anyone else who was blogging.
However, I met so many wonderful ladies at this event and hope it was the start of ‘squadding up’, as Sameera put it. I love the idea of being able to hang out with people who are passionate and experience the same us and downs, the same frustrations and the same wins. So lovely ladies – let’s do coffee (or wine!) soon.
The event was rounded out with a Q&A session with Nikita and Sameera, and there was plenty of time throughout the day to meet people, take photos, practice our flatlays and compete for prizes. We were also treated to some delicious food by Four Points and my growling stomach was more than happy to see veggie sushi, veggie gyoza, bruschetta and some killer baked goods on offer.
All up it was a wonderful day, lots of fun and super informative. Everyone was really kind and approachable and it was so amazing to connect with like-minded people. We were also lucky to walk away with an incredible gift bag absolutely stuffed to the brim with beauty products from wonderful sponsors and partners, and I’ll definitely talk more about them soon!
Thanks so much to Sophie and Samantha for all the work they put in to make this a killer event – I can’t wait for the next one!
PS – you know that squad I was talking about? If you’re looking for more Perth-based blogs to follow, you should definitely check out some of these amazing ladies:
