Fringe World 2014: my top picks

It’s one of the most wonderful times of the year – Fringe World Festival!

From January 24 to February 23, Fringe is back bigger and better in its third year, with a staggering 450 shows at more than 60 venues in Perth city and surrounds. Fringe invites you to take a chance on daring performances and allow yourself to be mesmerised, making the most of the long summer nights and exploring the city anew.

I had a fabulous time at Fringe last year (you can check out some of my reviews here) and thought I’d share some of my top picks for 2014. So sit back with a cool glass of summer cider, feast your eyes on the fabulous offerings and get ready to purchase your tickets.

EastEnd Cabaret: Dirty Talk (Rated 15+)

After taking Perth by storm at Fringe World 2013, the award winning, internationally-acclaimed musical comedy duo EastEnd Cabaret are back with their hotly-anticipated new show, Dirty Talk! After last year’s sold-out show experimented with ping pong ball manipulation and deflowering virgins, this year will see EastEnd Cabaret delving into their strangest and sauciest misadventures ever, armed with an accordion, a gallon or two of duty-free gin, and a life-sized plastic lobster. Fresh from a sell-out season at Edinburgh Fringe 2013, the double act described as “a high-powered feminine Flight of the Conchords dipped in acid and drenched in smut” ( are unashamedly filthy, unforgettably funny and utterly unmissable.

Trixie & Monkey’s Bottoms Up Circus (Rated 18+)

Professional NYC nightlife crazies, Trixie and Monkey return with an
outrageous new circus show! Trixie Little is a strong, bendy, burlesque
beauty who flips and strips with wild abandon. The Evil Hate Monkey is a
hairy boylesque force of nature who literally swings from the rafters.
Together, they are playfully subversive duo who have pioneered an original style of comic cabaret-erotique. Featuring daredevil trapeze trickery, wiggles-n-jiggles from the Cooch Tent, a singing-and-dancing Monkey, a live Mermaid and trained fleas! For this talented twosome, no feat is too high, no depth is too low and no Monkey ever goes un-spanked. Bottoms up, indeed!
